Personal Notes:
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our dear mother, Diana, on March 16, 2004. She was loved and will be missed by her children, Susanna and husband, Gary Barker, of Fort Frances, Ont., Angela and husband, Bruce Strandhagen, of Melrose, Fla., and Mike Jr. and wife, Sharon Hupchuk, of Fort Frances, Ont. She was born Sept. 12, 1925 in Amsterdam, Holland and came to Canada in 1946 as a Dutch war bride. She was married to Mike (Kuby) Hupchuk for 50 years until his passing in September, 1996. She was predeceased by her parents, Theodore and Annie (Gerstin) Verheul; brothers, Ted and Eugene Verheul; and grandson, Clint Strandhagen. Also surviving are brothers, Arthur and Paul Verheul of Holland; sister, Lou Van Roomen of Windsor, Ont.; and in Holland are sisters, Yolonda, Annie, Tres, Yvonne, Clemintine, and Angele. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her joy, and it reflected in her smiles and joking when they were around. They are Tina Leimenstoll and sons, Luke and Chad; Anita Anderson with husband, Warren, and children, Curtis and Courtney; Dan Barker; Barbara Sonnentag and husband, Terry; Chuck Strandhagen; Tessa Strandhagen and fiancé, Steve; Mathew Hupchuk; Mitchel Hupchuk; and Darcy Anderson and Jennifer Anderson. “Grandma’s bright blue eyes reflected the Light of her Soul.” A memorial service and luncheon will be held Saturday, March 20, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. at the Heritage Depot (CN station), 140 Fourth St. W., Fort Frances, Ont.
