Bands lend talent to fundraiser
January 7, 2005 Get ready to rock for a good cause Friday night at the first Battle of the Bands at New Song Church. A fundraiser for Kids Help Phone, the event features seven local groups fighting for the title of top band of the night. A panel of judges will determine the top four bands and the winner will be decided by the loudest audience response. First prize is eight hours of professional studio time. Participating acts include such names as Snowshoes, P.A.M.M., Pitch Union, Agents of Transportation, Nine Days Since, Edge of Reason and September's Ending. WIDE RANGE OF MUSIC Organizer Melanie Scott, 15, describes the music as ranging from hard rock to light alternative to acoustic. Despite her behind-the-scenes efforts, Scott says she doesn't have much of a preference when it comes to music. "I listen to everything. If it sounds good, I'll listen to it." The real prize for Scott will be helping Kids Help Phone, where she has been volunteering for the past year. "I thought it was great way to get involved in the community. I just wanted to do something good for people, I guess." The New Song Church is at 993 Drouillard Rd. Doors open at 8 p.m., admission is $5. All proceeds go to Kids Help Phone. © The Windsor Star 2005 | ||||||
