“ As junior Lieutenant with the 9th Regiment and 1st Regiment Infantry. By Royal Edict no.23 dated 7-11-1914 was promoted to reserve 2 nd Lieutenant . By Royal Edict dated 6-5-1919 and retrospective to 7-11-1918 was promoted to 1 st Lieutenant. By Ministerial decision dated 17-4-1918 he was awarded a silver medal for humanitarian service and a written commendation for “ without thought of own safety picking up and throwing a live handgrenade which had fallen at the practice range at HARSKAMP in the immediate vicinity of attending personnel, thereby saving many lives “ on 15-12-1917”. Resigned from Army 22-9-1923.
