Norwegian city of Strand: The arms were granted on May 25, 1973. The wheels are a symbol for the hydro power, which has been of importance to the municipality, first (since 1850) by using water mills, and now using modern hydro-electric plants.
Hage=bushes. Hagen received city rights in 1746 from King Friedrich II of Prussia. At the same time the first seal is known, which shows a canting Hag (Hag or Wald, means forest). Hagen used the lion of the main city, with a wheel on its shoulder. The wheel is the symbol of St. Catherine, patron saint of the quarter. The arms appear on the local fountain dating from 1407. |
