NICHOLLS, Dr. Peter John, BSc, M.D., C.M.
December 13, 1941 – Montreal, QB December 19,2013 – Calgary, AB Dr. Peter J. Nicholls, beloved husband of Hanneke Janssen of Calgary, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a three month hospitalization due to heart failure on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the age of 72 years. Dr. Peter J. Nicholls was born December 13, 1941 in Montreal, QB. Since his childhood, Peter suffered greatly with Ankylosing Spondylitis although this never deterred him. Peter began his education receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in 1964, Master in Sociology and later his Medical Doctor degree from McGill University in 1972. Peter was a constant learner, continuing his education, receiving his degree in Child Psychiatry from the University of British Columbia in 1974. Peter married Hanneke in 1982 and together made their home in Vancouver before coming to Calgary in 2000. Peter was a very compassionate and caring person; he truly cared for his patients and the children whom he counselled, always making himself available regardless of the time of day. Peter’s compassion was not only for his patients, he had a great love for all living things, supporting the humane care of animals. He was a loving husband, brother, friend and colleague who will be truly missed by all those whose lives he touched. Peter is survived by his loving wife, Hanneke; brother and sister-in-law, John and Alice Nicholls of Toronto, ON; sister and brother-in-law, Libby and Ron Toop of Toledo, ON; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. John and Adeline Nicholls.
